Women’s Wellness and Menstrual Care in TCM (Part 3): TCM’s Toolbox for Period Care

TCM for menstrual health

Irregular cycles, cramps, or unusual flow may be common, but they don’t have to be your “normal.” Many women reach for painkillers for quick relief, but this only covers up the problem. TCM looks deeper — finding the root imbalance and restoring harmony. So, what tools does TCM use to support women’s cycles?

Acupuncture & Moxibustion: Unblocking and Warming

  • Acupuncture: Stimulates key points (like Sanyinjiao, Guanyuan, Qihai) to regulate qi, blood, and ease cramps.

  • Moxibustion: Burning mugwort over the abdomen or ankles warms the uterus, improves flow, and helps those prone to “cold womb” pain.

Herbal Medicine: Personalized Prescriptions

In TCM, there’s no one-size-fits-all remedy. Prescriptions vary by body type:

  • Liver Qi Stagnation: Xiao Yao San to soothe stress.

  • Qi & Blood Deficiency: Si Wu Tang to nourish qi and blood.

  • Cold & Blood Stasis: Wen Jing Tang to warm, move, and clear stasis. (Always prescribed and adjusted by a licensed TCM physician.)

Modern Support: Meridian Magnetic Therapy

At Yong Kang TCM, we also combine technology with tradition. Meridian magnetic therapy uses mild magnetic fields and microcurrents on acupoints to boost circulation and ease pelvic discomfort — a gentle, needle-free option.

Food & Tea: Everyday Self-Care

  • Before Period: Rose or bergamot tea to calm mood swings and breast tenderness.

  • During Period: Brown sugar ginger tea, or longan & red date tea to warm the body and ease cold hands and feet.

  • After Period: Red dates, goji berries, spinach — to “recharge” for the next cycle.

In summary

TCM period care isn’t about a single method, but a combination — acupuncture, herbs, modern therapies, and lifestyle support. Since every woman’s body is different, personalized care is key.
