Nowadays with the strides technology is pushing into our lives there will be positive and negative effects. Screen time will (probably) be compounded on and off work, but what does that mean for our eyes in the long-term?

When you spend a significant amount of time looking at the screen, there is bound to be some sort of eye discomfort, blurred or poor vision due to eye fatigue, dry eyes, redness, and overall tiredness. Common conditions that occur when your eyes are overworked or strained for extended periods. On top of the damage of blue light from our screens, our eyesight will degrade over time as we age.

To reduce eye strain and fatigue you can start building preventative habits now and resist eye degradation.

Take a break

Follow the 20-20-20 rule. Every 20 minutes, look away from your screen and focus on an object about 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

A Proper Diet

Proper nutrition is good for your eye health. On top of a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, fish, and nuts, which provide vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that support eye health. Foods high in omega-3 fatty acids, lutein, zeaxanthin, and vitamin C and E are beneficial.

Foods high in omega-3 fatty acids are salmon, tuna, mackerel, herring and cod liver oil. Foods high in lutein and zeaxanthin are dark leafy greens, peas, summer squash, pumpkin, brussels sprouts, broccoli, asparagus, lettuce, carrots, and pistachios.

Foods high in vitamin C and E are dark leafy greens.

On top of a rounded diet, it is important to further target your eyes with ingredients that may not be readily found in your current diet or provide further nutrients that are beneficial in the long run.

Supplements

Supplements can be an excellent support for eye health on top of your diet. It can provide key nutrients that might not be easily found in your current diet or provide further nutrients that are beneficial in the long run.

Some reputable brands include key ingredients such as Lutein, Billbery, and Cassia seed (Semen Torae Cassiae) that are available in the market. Bilberry, blueberry, and lutein, to help relieve eye discomfort and to support eye health. Cassia seed (Semen Cassiae) has a cooling effect that addresses excessive heat in the liver and eyes, helps nourish and moisturize the eyes, reduce eye irritation, and relieve symptoms of dry eyes.
